The Western Positive Psychology Association is dedicated to creating a collaborative scientific community of faculty, students, and scholars to advance and support an academic agenda in the field of positive psychology.

The vision of the Western Positive Psychology Association is to promote an influential and sustainable academic presence of positive psychology in the western region of the United States. WPPA encourages teaching, scientific research, interdisciplinary collaborative investigations and dissemination of knowledge in positive psychology and strongly supports the professional development of positive psychology faculty and students.

Established in 2013, WPPA brings together the scientific community of faculty, students, and scholars to share their latest rigorous, evidence based empirical research in the science of happiness, excellence and optimal functioning.

2nd WPPA Conference  Positive Psychology Theory and Research for Action

January 20-21, 2017

Celebrating the science of optimal human functioning, Claremont Graduate University (CGU) will host the 2nd Western Positive Psychology Association (WPPA) Conference.

Two renowned keynote speakers will share their latest research with scholars, faculty, clinicians and students on the CGU campus in Claremont, California and via our vibrant on-line real-time interactive event webcast.   Advancing and encouraging rigorous, evidence-based empirical studies, WPPA’s 2nd conference also will feature workshops, symposia, individual posters and presentations on encouraged themes, but not limited to:

  • Positive Psychology in Work and Organizations
  • Positive Development across the Lifespan
  • Positive Health, Well-being, and Sports
  • Theory and Methodology of Positive Psychology
  • Positive Personality and Social Psychology
  • Positive Psychology in Diverse Contexts

January 20 – Friday  – Workshops, Reception & Entertainment

Invited pre-conference workshops will offer interactive opportunities to build skills and experiences.  That evening, our Wine & Cheese Reception will feature the film:  North of Normal:  Love, Passion and Peak Experiences.   Please join us for this event.

January 21 – Saturday – Keynote Speakers, Presentations, Posters, Panel and Reception   

We will be announcing our two Keynote Speakers in early Fall.  Watch for updates.

We invite your submissions.  The requirements are simple.  Featured topics are listed above with dual and broader topic submissions welcome.   Abstract Submissions should be no more than 350 words with additional guidelines provided.   All authors planning on making a presentation at the convention must be registered for the convention at the time of submission.  Membership in WPPA is FREE and there is a small fee ($20-$70) for conference registration.   Important dates:  Nov. 18, 2016 – Submission Deadline;  Dec. 5 – Decisions Sent;  Dec. 15 – Online Program registration available.

The 1st WPPA Academic Conference – Sept. 5-7, 2014 

Our First WPPA Conference, The Future of Positive Psychology, celebrated Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi’s 80th birthday and career contributions.   Leaders in the field joined us including Antonella Delle Fave, Howard Gardner, Hans Henrik Knoop, Jeanne Nakamura, Stewart Donaldson, Kendall Cotton Bronk, Giacomo Bono, Jennifer Pedrotti, Shelly Harrell, Bruce Smith, Karen Beard and more from our growing community.
